What Is U9?
U9 is a privacy-focused, quantum-resistant stablecoin pegged to the US dollar and over-collateralised with Bitcoin. You can use it to save, send, and spend, while your wallet balance and transaction amounts stay private.
With most stablecoins today, anyone who knows your wallet address can see exactly how much you hold and every payment you make. That record is public, permanent, and open to anyone.
U9 changes that. It is pegged to the US dollar, so it is stable enough for saving and spending. Unlike ordinary stablecoins, your balance and the amount of every transfer are hidden. Only you can see them.
U9 also uses next-generation, lattice-based cryptography that is resistant to quantum computers, so it is built to stay secure in the future.
U9 was created by a global community of privacy advocates, including entrepreneurs, international traders, technologists, and academics. They share one belief: financial privacy is a basic right, and you should not have to give it up to use a stable digital currency.
What Makes U9 Different?
1. Your balance and transfers stay private
- Hidden balances: No one can see how much U9 you hold. Not companies, not data brokers, and not even the person you just paid.
- Hidden transfer amounts: Whether you are paying for a service, splitting a bill, or sending money to family abroad, only you and the recipient know the amount.
Privacy is how U9 works by default. It is not a setting you have to turn on.
2. You control your wallet
Mainstream stablecoins such as USDT and USDC are controlled by the companies that issue them, and those companies can freeze funds in a wallet. The U9 wallet is non-custodial. Only you hold your seed phrase and private keys, so the U9 Team cannot access, freeze, or move the assets in your wallet.
Note: The U9 Visa Card is issued by a third-party card issuer under a licence from Visa, and your card balance is subject to the issuer's and Visa's rules.
3. Backed by Bitcoin, protected automatically
Every U9 is backed by Bitcoin reserves worth more than its value. This extra buffer absorbs market swings and helps keep U9 at one dollar.
In an extreme case, if the price of Bitcoin falls below a safety threshold, the system automatically distributes the Bitcoin reserves to all U9 holders in proportion to their holdings. No company makes the decision, and no approval is needed. It simply happens automatically.
What Are U9's Key Benefits and Use Cases?
- Keep your assets private: Swap USDT or USDC for U9 in the app. Once the swap is complete, your balance and transfer amounts are protected.
- Swap back anytime: When you need to return to the wider digital asset ecosystem, you can swap U9 back to USDT or USDC.
- Spend every day: Pay online with the U9 Visa Card, or add it to Apple Pay or Google Wallet to tap and pay in stores.
- Send money abroad: Use Global Remittance to send U9 to a local bank account overseas. The recipient receives local currency.
What Are U9's Three Main Features?
U9's three main features work independently, so you can use any one of them on its own.
| Feature | What you can do with it | Identity verification |
|---|---|---|
| U9 Wallet and Swap | Hold and send U9 in your Abelian wallet, and swap USDT or USDC for U9 (or back again) at any time | Not required |
| U9 Visa Card | Top up a Visa virtual card with U9 and pay online, or add it to Apple Pay or Google Wallet to tap and pay in stores | Required |
| Global Remittance | Send U9 to a recipient's local bank account, and they receive local currency | Not required |
- The U9 Visa Card and Global Remittance are separate products. Global Remittance does not need identity verification or a U9 Visa Card, and the amount is paid from the U9 balance in your wallet (Abelian).
What Is the Difference Between My Wallet Balance and My U9 Visa Card Balance?
- Wallet balance: The U9 held at your wallet address in the app. You can use it to send, swap, and make remittances.
- U9 Visa Card balance: The amount you have topped up onto your U9 Visa Card and can spend at merchants.
You move funds between the two with Top up and Withdraw. Top up moves U9 from your wallet to your U9 Visa Card, and Withdraw moves it from your U9 Visa Card back to your wallet.
